Book Description The enlightenment you seek in other religions has been present in Christianity from the beginning. Richard Rohr, a global leader in spiritual awakening, helps you recognize the forces (such as ego resistance and dual thinking) that separate you from your deeper self. Then, drawing from Gospels and the greatest Christian contemplatives, he shows you what it means to be spiritually awake. You will learn why your ego resists change and growth, what is useful about popular ideas such as the law of attraction, what Jesus, the first mythical leader in the West, can teach you, and how you can enhance spiritual awareness without sacrificing reason.
About the Book Club Facilitators
Teresa Yerkes, founder of the Christian Meditation Center, has been a devoted Christian since 1983 and has practiced Christian meditation since 2000. She is the author of five books. Teresa teaches and leads Christian meditation training and sessions. She is a public speaker who facilitates book clubs and leads retreats. As a Certified Lay Speaker and Lay Counselor, she brings over forty years of personal discovery and highly specialized spiritual direction training from the Shalem Institute to her work. In 2023, she organized a coalition comprised of like-minded people who also have a passion for teaching Christian meditation.
Teresa’s career was primarily in business administration. She is married to her husband, Bill, and is a mother to three children and a grandmother to six grandchildren. She loves their two yellow labs, Lucy and Peaches, and their cat, Gracie. Her favorite pastime is spending time with family and friends. She also enjoys reading and taking walks with her husband and their dogs.
Kate Devine Brady, founder of Art Well LA, is a certified therapeutic art practitioner specializing in Christianity. Her affinity for art blossomed at a young age and eventually led her to New York, where she earned her Visual Fine Arts degree at New York University, with a major in art and a minor in religious studies. Following her experience teaching English in Japan, Korea, and Indonesia, she returned to the States and pursued her early childhood education training. She began teaching art in public and Catholic schools on the West Coast. Firmly believing in the importance of connecting art and spirituality in the academic curriculum her students develop self-expression, meditation, and creativity skills while learning eclectic art techniques. On weekends, she dedicates her time to teaching catechism.
She is married to her husband, Mark, and is a mother to her son, Luke. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as her two pups, Piper and Yoda. Reading spiritual literature and expressing her voice through painting and poetry restores her soul.
